       Central Command Area of Responsibility (Feb. 12, 2003) -- A Sea Lion trainer from Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR), San Diego, works on hand signal commands with Zak, a 375-pound California sea lion during a harbor patrol training swim mission. Zak is participating in the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center's, Shallow Water Intruder Detection System (SWIDS) program. Zak has been trained to locate swimmers near piers, ships, and other objects in the water considered suspicious and a possible threat to military forces in the area.        Persian Gulf (Jan. 20, 2005) - Photographers Mate 3rd Class Paul Taylor, assigned to the "Swordsmen" of Fighter Squadron Three Two (VF-32), runs a system check on the Low Altitude Navigation Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN) pod in the cockpit of an F-14B Tomcat during a no-fly day aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). LANTIRN consists of a targeting and navigational pod integrated and mounted externally beneath the aircraft and it significantly increases the combat effectiveness of these aircraft, allowing them to fly at low altitudes, at night and under-the-weather to attack ground targets with a variety of precision-guided and unguided weapons.        Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (Feb. 14, 2007) - Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Frederick Marshall, assigned to guided missile destroyer USS Hopper (DDG 70), gets hands-on information technology (IT) training.        PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (June 23, 2007) - Spanish frigate SPS Mendez Nunez (F-104) passes Hospital Point as she pulls into Pearl Harbor for a port visit. The frigate recently participated with San Diego-based Aegis destroyer USS Decatur (DDG 73) and Pearl Harbor-based Aegis cruiser USS Port Royal (CG 73) in a successful ballistic missile hit-to-kill intercept flight test off the coast of Kauai.        PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 9, 2007) - Sonar Technician (Guided Missile) 1st Class Marcelo Cadiente monitors the surface search radar in the combat information center aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60) as part of exercise Valiant Shield 2007. Paul Hamilton is part of the John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group. The John C. Stennis, Kitty Hawk and Nimitz Carrier Strike Groups are participating in Valiant Shield 2007, the largest joint exercise in recent history.
